What is shot blasting
Nowadays, enterprises usually use cleaning equipment to remove oxides and adhesives on the surface of castings or parts, and cleaning equipment can improve their surface quality. So what is shot blasting cleaning technology? Cleaning equipment can be divided into wet cleaning equipment and dry cleaning equipment according to the working environment. According to whether there is abrasive during cleaning, it can be divided into non-abrasive cleaning and abrasive cleaning: non-abrasive cleaning uses the mutual scraping and friction between workpieces to complete the surface cleaning of workpieces. This method is mainly used in the cleaning of small castings that are not afraid of collision; abrasive cleaning uses high-speed flying projectiles to throw and hit the surface of the workpiece, which can not only remove oxides and adhesives on the surface of the workpiece, but also make the surface of the workpiece reach a certain surface quality. Moreover, this method requires less investment and produces less pollution, so that this method can be applied to workpieces of various materials, weights and sizes. Therefore, abrasive cleaning is the main method currently used by enterprises to clean parts.
Abrasive cleaning can be divided into shot peening and shot blasting according to the way the projectiles are accelerated: Shot peening uses high pressure to compress air as a power source to accelerate small steel shots and throw them onto the surface of parts to achieve the purpose of cleaning; Shot blasting uses high-speed rotating blades to accelerate the projectiles to a certain speed and throw them onto the surface of the cleaned parts to remove the sticky sand, oxide scale, and burrs on the surface of the workpiece. Shot blasting technology is mainly used to remove the oxide film and black skin on the surface of the workpiece caused by casting, forging, and heat treatment. This method can not only make the workpiece beautiful and increase the welding tensile stress, but also improve the fatigue strength and corrosion resistance of the surface of the parts to achieve the purpose of increasing the service life of the workpiece. At the same time, this method can also increase the roughness of the workpiece surface to increase the adhesion of the subsequent paint film to the workpiece. Therefore, this technology is widely used in fields such as automobiles, military industry, construction, locomotives, and ships.
Compared with other cleaning technologies, shot blasting has many advantages:
(1) The surface of the workpiece impacted by the projectile will produce surface strengthening, which will increase its surface hardness and optimize the process surface state of the workpiece, which will also greatly improve its corrosion resistance and fatigue resistance
(2) Shot blasting can reveal hidden cracks in the material and eliminate the internal stress on the surface of the workpiece to extend the service life of the workpiece;
(3) Shot blasting equipment is easy to automate, with high cleaning efficiency, which can reduce the number of operators and work intensity, facilitate large-scale cleaning of workpieces and have low operating costs. Adding dust removal equipment can greatly reduce environmental pollution.
