As is well known, steel plates are prone to rusting after long-term storage, which not only affects their appearance but also affects their use. So what are the good methods for rust removal on steel plates? The editor has compiled several methods for rust removal of steel plates for your reference.
1、 Shot blasting machine for rust removal
As the name suggests, shot blasting machine rust removal refers to the use of a steel plate moving shot blasting machine or the use of steel sand to impact the surface oxide skin of the steel plate to achieve the effect of rust removal. Commonly used are through type shot blasting machines and steel plate mobile shot blasting machines, both of which can perfectly solve the problem of surface rust on steel plates. The difference is that through type shot blasting machines have high efficiency, but they occupy a large area and are very cumbersome to move; Although the efficiency of the steel plate mobile shot blasting machine is lower, its advantages lie in its portability, lightweight, convenient transportation, and simple operation.
In terms of effectiveness, the shot blasting machine can achieve the highest metal sandblasting grade SA2.5-SA3. In terms of cost-effectiveness, it can significantly release labor, and the abrasive is recycled, and the cost of steel sand is also very low. So now there are more and more widespread applications in rust removal and surface pretreatment of ship hulls, steel bridge decks, H-beams, etc. Shot blasting machine rust removal is now the most commonly used rust removal method on the market.
2、 Manual rust removal
This is a long and arduous process. The use of tools such as shovels and grinders for rust removal is not very effective. Nowadays, few companies use such a labor-intensive method to remove rust.
3、 Acid cleaning and rust removal
Acid pickling and rust removal utilizes the reaction between acid and metal oxides in the pickling solution to dissolve metal oxides and remove oxides and rust from the steel surface. Although the effect of pickling and rust removal is very good, the pickling process has gradually been phased out in China due to the inability to discharge the wastewater generated by pickling, causing environmental pollution.
There are two general pickling methods: ordinary pickling and comprehensive pickling. After pickling, steel is prone to air oxidation and must undergo passivation treatment to improve its rust resistance.
4、 Flame rust removal
Flame rust removal of steel plates refers to the use of a steel wire brush to remove the rust that adheres to the surface of the steel plate after the flame heating operation. Before rust removal on the steel plate surface, the relatively thick rust layer attached to the steel plate surface should be removed first, and then flame heating should be used for rust removal. When using this method, it is necessary to be careful not to burn through the metal surface and prevent large-scale surface deformation due to heating.
